The town of Oxford announced Oct. 18 that it will hold two bulk item drop-off events this fall at the Oxford Transfer Station, 200 Leicester Street in North Oxford.

The drop-offs will run from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on both Saturday, Oct. 31, and Saturday, Nov. 7. The Oct. 31 date is for residents north of Charlton Street and Sutton Avenue, while the Nov. 7 date is for residents south of Charlton Street and Sutton Avenue. The town said the schedule "will be strictly enforced" and that anyone who arrives on the wrong day will be denied access.

Residents who cannot make their assigned Saturday may call the Department of Public Works at 508-987-6006 before Oct. 29 to switch their day.

Participants must show proof of residency, and the drop-off is limited to residential use only, not businesses. Vehicles are capped at the size of a one-ton truck or van, and households are limited to two loads, which will be checked and recorded at the gate.

Accepted items include televisions (limited to two per household), VCRs, furniture, air conditioners and other appliances, car and truck batteries, computers and electronics, lawn mowers that have been drained of fluid, microwaves, refrigerators, stoves, grills, scrap metal, water heaters and bikes.

Materials that will not be accepted include mattresses and box springs, textiles, car parts including tires, hazardous materials, paint, propane tanks, waste oil, fluorescent bulbs, recyclable items, cleaning materials, yard waste, construction and demolition debris, liquid waste, lumber and household trash.

Questions about what is accepted can be directed to Casella at 508-892-1219. General questions can be directed to the Department of Public Works at 508-987-6006.
